2008 National Slam & Canadian Festival of Spoken Word

In November 2008, in conjunction with SPOCAN, we held the 2008 National Slam & Canadian Festival of Spoken Word. This special event also included presentations from 9 established Spoken Word artists from across Canada.  This week-long festival presented events which addressed important issues and educational forums – there were workshops, open mics, public art presentations, interviews, discussions, CD launches, readings and the National Slam.  Therefore, this festival was also educational and informative about the genre of Spoken Word.  We presented a festival which featured 60 Slam artists (12 teams of 4, plus one alternate per team) representing Calgary, Halifax, Lanark County, Montreal, Ottawa, Southern Ontario, Toronto, Up From The Roots (Toronto), Vancouver, Victoria, and Winnipeg.
