“Exposés, denunciations, mockery, and threats are timeworn strategies of writing that responds to injustice. But humor is also a response that poets and fiction writers have successfully used to convince readers of the need to act against an outrageous situation or reject a baleful ideology. In this workshop we’ll look at some literary examples of how humor was employed by writers engaged in social struggles past and present, and see what we can learn for our own writing from the approaches adopted by these authors.

Please submit by April 1 up to ten pages of your own writing. A selection from workshop participants’ own work will be circulated in advance of the workshop and considered during the session. You can email your submission to info@ciswf.com; please put in the subject line: Humor Workshop submission.  Send your work in .doc, .docx or .rtf format only, please.”
