Molly Peacock (Buffalo)

A workshop and reading by Molly Peacock, author of the best selling The Paper Garden: Mrs. Delany Begins Her Life’s Work at 72 and the volume of poetry, The Second Blush.

Molly Peacock will discuss the remarkable late bloomer Mrs. Delany (1700-1788) who invented the art of botanical collage in her eighth decade, showing how the lessons of Delany’s life can be applied to our own creativity. “First of all,” Peacock says, “relieve yourself of guilt for not doing whatever you thought you should be doing earlier in your life. As Delany’s astonishing flower collages show us, some things take living long enough to do.” Peacock’s reading will involve a slide show of Delany’s work. Her workshop will involve discussions and writing exercises to get participants going on their own creative projects. All creative projects will be considered, including poetry.
